The U.S. Men’s National Soccer Team will play its third group stage match at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games against Guinea.
The USMNT has to win to secure a place in the quarterfinals of the Olympic tournament and not have to depend on anyone, the advantage is that it faces the opponent that has looked the weakest in this competition in Group A.
After a painful 3-0 loss to hosts France, the Stars and Stripes bounced back to beat New Zealand 4-1 and have a chance to advance to the knockout stage.
Guinea, on the other hand, would need more than a miracle to advance, after losing 1-2 to the New Zealand All Whites in their opener, and then losing again, this time to the French, 0-1.
Guinea would need to beat the United States and hope France does the same against the New Zealanders, so the African nation’s hopes are pinned on this match.
USMNT coach Marko Mitrovic knows that despite Guinea‘s two defeats, the match will not be easy, as the Guineans have a dangerous attacker in former Liverpool player Naby Keita.
The match is a preview of the knockout rounds, as the United States and Guinea are playing for their lives and only a win can do them good.
