It appears that Arik Armstead‘s 49ers tenure has come to an end.

After being officially released by San Francisco on Wednesday, the former 49ers defensive tackle is set to sign a contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars, NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported Thursday, citing sources.

Armstead spent nine seasons with the 49ers and was the longest-tenured player on the roster before his release on Wednesday. The transaction resulted in a less-than-enthused response from wide receiver Deebo Samuel on social media.

The Oregon product lined up at both defensive tackle and defensive end over the years for San Francisco, and was willing to play wherever the team needed him most. In 116 games (97 starts) with the 49ers, Armstead recorded 33.5 sacks, 302 combined tackles, 43 tackles for loss, 88 quarterback hits, three forced fumbles and six passes defensed.

Armstead currently has the second-most playoff sacks (8) in 49ers franchise history behind former teammate Nick Bosa (10). The 30-year-old also became an important figure in local Bay Area and Sacramento communities and was the 49ers’ Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year nominee in each of the past four seasons.

Now Armstead will reunite with former 49ers and current Jaguars general manager Trent Baalke, who selected him with the No. 17 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft and will help anchor a young Jacksonville defensive line.
