Justin Timberlake arrested on DWI charge in the Hamptons

Justin Timberlake was arrested after allegedly driving while intoxicated in the Hamptons, authorities said.

The singer appeared in court on Tuesday morning and was later released from police custody, a Sag Harbor police representative confirmed. The police department for the affluent Long Island village and the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office declined to provide any additional details about the arrest.

The Grammy-winning artist is currently on the Forget Tomorrow World Tour, which features his latest album, “Everything I Thought It Was,” and has a next stop in Chicago on Friday.

Representatives for Timberlake didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

The entertainer has admitted to excessive drinking in the past. In 2019, he apologized in a now-deleted Instagram post for his “strong lapse in judgement” after a video showed him stumbling while holding hands with “Palmer” co-star Alisha Wainwright: “I drank way too much that night and apologize for my behavior.”

In a 2014 episode of “Oprah’s Master Class: The Podcast,” he mentioned that he drank “a whole bottle of whiskey” after a star-studded set where audience members threw bottles at him and the other performers onstage.

Timberlake rallied against drunken driving in 2002, according to the Associated Press. After a fan was killed by a pickup truck while waiting to see him, the performer said in a statement that the tragedy “demonstrates the horrors of drunk driving.”

Timberlake first rose to fame as a child star, notably on “The All New Mickey Mouse Club” alongside Britney Spears, Ryan Gosling and Christina Aguilera. He then dominated pop music in the late 1990s and early 2000s with hits such as “Bye Bye Bye” and “I Want You Back” as part of NSYNC, before pursuing a solo career in 2002.
