France shows its anger on May Day ahead of Paris Olympics


PARIS — Demands for wage hikes, calls for a Gaza cease-fire and chants about distinguishing the Olympics flame echoed in the streets of Paris on Wednesday, as traditional May Day labor rights marches melded with pro-Palestinian protests and anti-Olympics demonstrations.

May 1 is labor day for much of the world and an annual display of protest and activism. In France, it can be a good moment to take the temperature of the nation.
