Columbus Crew mocks Rayados after eliminating them from Concacaf Champions Cup

After Columbus Crew had humbled Rayados on the pitch, they also humiliated them off it after knocking them out of the Concacaf Champions Cup.

‘La Pandilla’ was hoping to advance in the competition against the MLS team on May 1, but it was not to be, and they took the opportunity to make fun of Rayados.

MESSI AWARD: Messi’s impact on MLSMARCA

“On May 1st, spectacular things always happen…. (RT) if Club de Futbol Monterrey wins today,” said the Monterrey club ahead of the match.

But after the match, which ended in a 3-1 victory for Columbus Crew and progress to the Concacaf Champions Cup final, they took the opportunity to leave a spicy message.

“They didn’t win”, was what you could read on their social networks, which sparked the mockery of ‘La Pandilla’.

Why is May 1st important for CF Monterrey?

It should be remembered that this has become a special day for the team from the ‘Sultana del Norte’, as they have lifted two titles.

In 2013 and 2019, Rayados won their third and fourth Concacaf Champions Cup titles against Santos Laguna and Tigres, respectively, a scenario they wanted to replicate against Columbus Crew after losing the first leg 2-1 in the United States.

However, the illusion of a comeback turned into a nightmare, as the MLS side struck an emphatic blow and won 3-1 in the second leg at Rayados‘ home, eliminating them from the Concacaf Champions Cup, and advancing to the Final, where they will face Pachuca.

Columbus Crew have become a ‘nightmare’ for Mexican teams in recent months, defeating America 4-1 in the last Leagues Cup, while they eliminated Tigres and Rayados in the current Concacaf Champions Cup, in the quarter-finals and semi-finals, respectively.
