BERLIN — A hereditary prince and alleged ringleader of a plot to violently overthrow the German government goes on trial alongside eight other suspects in Frankfurt on Tuesday. Heinrich XIII, Prince of Reuss, and his alleged co-conspirators are charged with preparation of a treasonous act and membership in or support of a terrorist organization. Although such a coup was unlikely to succeed, German authorities assessed that the plotters were advanced enough in their planning, and sufficiently well-funded and armed, to pose a legitimate threat of terrorism.
