Barcelona‘s friendly match against Club America in the United States for December 21 has been confirmed, just before the players take their Christmas vacations.
The match will take place in Dallas’ Cotton Bowl Stadium against Mexico’s America. The Blaugrana had been negotiating this friendly match for some time in order to bring in money considering the state of the club’s finances.
There was talk of this match being played in some of the weeks in which Barcelona don’t have a match, but it was an option discarded by the sporting directors as it could harm the team after such a long trip.
Barcelona will travel to the United States after the LaLiga match against Almeria. The match is scheduled for December 20, so there could be some conflict unless the Blaugrana can change the date of the game.
If not, then Xavi‘s men face playing two games in two days on different continents. However, they do expect the game to be moved to December 19 to allow for travel to the USA.
Barcelona are in need of cash and will earn around 5 million euros from the match with stars like De Jong, Ter Stegen, Lewandowski, Pedri, Gavi, Joao Felix, and Cancelo all expected to feature.
Upon returning from the trip, the players will take a vacation. The next LaLiga match will be played on Wednesday, January 3 against Las Palmas, although it could be moved forward or delayed by one day.
Who does Barcelona play next?
The Catalan club will be at away at Vallecas as they take on Rayo Vallecano in Matchday 14 of the 2023/24 LaLiga season.
Rayo Vallecano are currently 10th in the standings with four wins, six draws and their losses to their name, whilst Barcelona are third with nine wins, three draws and one loss.
Rayo Vallecano average 1.15 goals per game and allow an average of 1.30 per game, suggesting Xavi’s side could be facing a stubborn side to beat.
Barcelona trail Girona and Real Madrid by four and two points respectively, and their bid to move above their Clasico rivals against Rayo Vallecano will take place on Saturday, November 25.
