Megan Rapinoe’s career ended in disappointing fashion after tearing her achilles during OL Reigns’ NWSL game against Gotham FC. The iconic striker was forced to abandon the field in the sixth minute, something she heavily lamented- albeit controversially- after the game.
In an unconventional rant, the striker claimed that her unfortunate injury proved God didn’t exist and that to speed up her recovery, she was going to get the “Aaron Rodgers treatment”.
“This is a long one,” she began in the post-match interview with Rose Lavelle. “I’m gonna get the Aaron Rodgers treatment whatever that is. So, I’m going to be calling him or whoever did his surgery so we can speed this up,” she continued.

For context, the New York Jets quarterback has undergone what some have described as a ‘miraculous’ recovery after tearing his Achilles tendon in Week 1 of the NFL season against the Buffalo Bills. Despite the severity of the injury, Rodgers is eyeing a return in mid-December, just a few months after the incident.
Rapinoe claims Injury proves God doesn’t exist
Rapinoe’s remarks have proved to be a step too far some, with the player claiming that the injury proves that God doesn’t exist. “I’m not a religious person or anything and if there was a God, like, this is proof that there isn’t,” Rapinoe said. “This is f**ked up. It’s just f**ked up. Six minutes in, and I eat my Achilles.”
Rapinoe announced she would be retiring from soccer back in July in the weeks leading up to the USA’s disastrous World Cup Campaign where they suffered their earliest exist in history.
“I’ve been able to have such an incredible career, and this game has brought me all over the world and allowed me to meet so many amazing people,” Rapinoe said.
“I feel incredibly grateful to have played as long as I have, to be as successful as we’ve been, and to have been a part of a generation of players who undoubtedly left the game better than they found it. To be able to play one last World Cup and one last NWSL season and go out on my own terms is incredibly special.”
