HOUSTON – The City of Houston is celebrating “Dynamo Day” on November 1st.

Mayor Whitmire proclaimed November 1, 2024, as Dynamo Day in Houston on Tuesday during the public session of the Houston City Council meeting at City Hall.

The day is to celebrate to celebrate the Houston Dynamo soccer team and build enthusiasm for their upcoming playoff game on Sunday, November 3 at Shell Energy Stadium.

The proclamation highlights the Dynamo’s role in introducing soccer to Houston and the team’s back-to-back playoff appearances for the first time in 11 years.

All residents and fans in greater Houston are invited to display their support by wearing Dynamo gear on Friday, November 1.

Why did Mayor Whitmire issue a proclamation to the Houston Dynamo?

As the Dynamo gear up for their playoff pursuit, the City of Houston urged residents to rally behind the team in a show of solidarity and pride.

Mayor Whitmire expressed, “This proclamation highlights how special the Houston Dynamo are to our city. November 1, 2024, is Dynamo Day in Houston, Texas. I encourage everyone to support the Dynamo at their home match on Sunday.”

This proclamation was made during the city council meeting and marks the team’s first back-to-back playoff appearances since 2013, highlighting the dedication and hard work of both players and coaching staff.

“On Dynamo Day, we encourage every Houstonian to proudly wear your Dynamo colors. Our passionate fans are ready for our first home playoff match, and we hope to unite the entire city to pack Shell Energy Stadium on Sunday,” said SJ Luedtke, chief marketing officer of Houston Dynamo Football Club.

When does Houston Dynamo play at home in the 2024 MLS Cup Playoffs?

Houston Dynamo FC will host Seattle Sounders FC on Sunday, November 3, 2024 at Shell Energy Stadium for Game 2 of their Round One Best-of-3 Series in the MLS Cup Playoffs.

The two teams tied nil-nil in Game 1, needing a penalty shootout to decide a winner. Seattle took the victory, 5-4 on PKs, meaning the Dynamo must win on Sunday to avoid elimination.
