Argentinian Boca Juniors fans began arriving in Rio de Janeiro to support their team in the Copa Libertadores final against Brazil’s Fluminense.
Boca fans were celebrating on the beaches of Rio de Janeiro near the Fan Fest when a surprise attack by Fluminense fans unnerved them and a pitched battle began.
Videos of the moment began to circulate on social media, the Brazilian police had an unprofessional response because although they were close to the place they did not intervene until after several minutes.
This situation has already happened on other occasions, so Boca fans had possibly contemplated it, but did not know at what moment it could happen.
Testimonies gathered by TNTSports indicate that Fluminense fans beat and stole wallets, cell phones and valuable belongings from both Boca fans and visitors who were in the place.
Boca Juniors and Fluminense will face each other on November 4 in the final of the CONMEBOL Libertadores 2023, which will be played at the Maracana in Rio de Janeiro.
