Lionel Messi was widely regarded as the greatest soccer player of all-time before delivering Argentina the 2022 FIFA World Cup and claiming his eighth Ballon d’Or award, and it seems as though David Beckham is of that opinion too.
The Inter Miami player, who is at the club owned by Beckham, is currently writing another successful chapter to his story stateside after gifting the Floridians the Leagues Cup in 2023.
He’s even managed to impress the former-Manchester United and Real Madrid winger, who subtly called him the greatest of all time (GOAT) in a funny social media upload from the 48-year-old.
Taking his children to a farm, Beckham posed with a kid (baby goat) and made his joke to his 85m followers.
“I found a little friend in the country,” Beckham posted to Instagram. “And no, HarperSeven, I’m sorry, we can’t keep it. We have enough G.O.A.Ts right now.”
The post earned 950k likes and 4348 comments from his fans from an upload on November 11.
Messi’s rallying cry to Inter Miami
Despite producing 11 goals and five assists in the pink jersey of Inter Miami, ‘La Pulga’ could only lead the club to 14th in the Eastern Conference of the MLS (second-last).
But that isn’t getting to the Argentinian who promised better results in the 2024 season.
“I have no doubt that next year is going to be much better,” Messi said at their preseason fixture against NYCFC. “We need your support, we need to keep you close, we have to do it together”.
“For me it is very beautiful to share this Golden Ball with you, I have been here for a short time but it seems like a long time since I arrived. I want to thank all the people of Miami for the treatment, both me and my family.
“We have been together for a short time but we have already achieved something important, such as the first title for this club (the Leagues Cup).
“It is something very important for what is coming next year, to play in an important tournament (the Concacaf Champions Cup).
“I had no doubts about how I was going to find myself here.”
